Football Roundup of the Week: From Cowboys RB Ronald Jones Jr. Suspension to Latest Standings

NFL updates

Black Sports Digest keeps you up to date with the latest NFL updates and other sports news and updates.

The world of the NFL saw some turbulence in the past week.

The Buffalo Bills running back, Nyheim Hines, is to miss the entire NFL upcoming season. This was due to a left ACL injury due to an offsite incident.

The WR Chase Claypool was also removed due to his inability to perform. The team announced this decision on Monday.

Here is what you missed in the latest NFL happenings.

Wide Receiver Is Now a Premium Position

The increasing salaries of established WR stars only confirm the hype of this position.

The 2022 NFL Draft saw six receivers coming off the board in Round 1. Later on, Garrett Wilson won the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Similarly, Chris Olave also flashed his abilities last season.

However, which one of the second-year WRs will take the biggest step forward?

BJ Ojulari Signs His Rookie Deal

The second-round pick finally signs his rookie deal. The Arizona Cardinals had their 2023 draft picks all under contract.

But linebacker Ojulari was still unsigned.

Now, he has a four year rookie contract.

The second-rounder can negotiate their years. For example, Rondale Moore and Trey McBride both have two guaranteed years.

The signing of Ojulari comes right on time for the training camp. The teammates are all pumped up and scheduled to report on Tuesday.

The Baltimore Ravens Sign Cornerback Arthur Maulet: NFL Game Predictions

On July 26, 2023, CB Arthur Maulet signed a one-year deal with the Ravens.

This signing adds tension to the ongoing rivalry between the Ravens and Steelers. As the competition becomes more intriguing, everyone wonders why Maulet asked for his release.

Maulet played in all 17 games and led Pittsburgh to the special teams’ tackles.

However, his arrival at Ravens was a result of a contract dispute.

Maulet was entering a second-year contract extension with the Steelers.

Now, he has a chance to face his former teammates twice this season. In addition, the Ravens also have an opening for a nickel cornerback spot.

The Cincinnati Bengals Resign Tight End Mitchell Wilcox

On 24th July 2023, the Bengals re-signed Mitchell Wilcox. The team assigned him to the active/physically unable to perform list.

Wilcox is a fourth-year player, and he spent the first three seasons with Cincinnati. This was after he joined the Bengals in 2020 as a college-free agent.

The Ronald Jones Suspension

The NFL suspended Ronald Jones for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy.

Jones is suspended for two games. However, he contributed the failed test to a heart medicine that was prescribed.

Jones said that the medicine had been prescribed ever since he entered the league.

Even if Jones handles “what he puts in his body,” he is still disappointed by the NFL’s decision.

However, Jones can still practice with his team and play in preseason games. His suspension will take effect before Week 1, which means that he is eligible to return to the team on September 18.

Defensive End Eyioma Uwazurike Got Suspended Too

The NFL suspended five players in April for violating the league’s gambling policy.

The defensive lineman of the Denver Broncos, Eyioma Uwazurike, is also suspended. This decision came as a result of his betting on the games during the 2022 NFL season.

CJ Stroud Signs the Texan's Rookie Contract

Stroud closely followed Bryce Young in signing his rookie contract. The quarterback was selected as the second pick by the Houston Texans in the April NFL Draft.

Houston plans to use Stroud to lead his team into the next era of Texans football.

According to the Houston Texans’ coaching staff, Stroud is ahead of time. He signed his rookie contract ahead of the training camp. This deal is fully guaranteed for four years.

The cornerback fills the roster spot left by former player Tim Patrick.

On August 1st, 2023, Broncos announced that they were signing Fabian Moreau. The cornerback has signed a one-year contract.

The Broncos will assign Fabian Moreau to fill the roster spot left by Tim Patrick. This would be the case when the team places Patrick on an injured reserve.

Moreau entered the NFL as a third-round pick. He spent four years in D.C. and later spent time with the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, and New York Giants.

Fabian Moreau has made his appearance in 90 games, thus earning 45 starts.

Godwin Igwebuike, Rb, Is Signing With the Atlanta Falcons

There is a new running back in the training camp of the Falcons.

The team cut Kicker Matthew Trickett to make room for Godwin Igwebuike. The RB entered the league in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. Furthermore, he was also defensive. Later he switched positions from the 49ers, Eagles, and Jets to the Lions.

The Detroit Lions Head Coach Sees Growth in Jared Goff

The NFL quarterback went to the Detroit Lions in March 2021.

A few years ago, Ben Johnson was still trying to teach the offense basics to his training camp.

However, this year, Jared Goff benefited from the wealth of knowledge and experience. Thus the Lions entered with a lot of progress on the offense side. This improvement is made by head coach Dan Campbell, comparing it to the team’s performance in 2022.

According to Campbell, the team was implementing many things in the previous years. This was the first time the team had done it together.

Now that they are at the second level, Campbell wonders how fast they can grow. He appreciates Goff for coming strong at the end of their last season.
